Air Craft TU-142 Museum


09.04.2017 : Navy's flagship anti-submarine Aircraft Tu-142M will be turned into a museum at beach road opposite Submarine Museum in Vizag Smart City. At a special ceremony on 08.04.2017 at INS Dega, the aircraft that served the Indian Navy for over 29 years and has flown over 30,000 hours, was given a ceremonial salute by two water cannons and was received on the tarmac by Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu, Commander-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command Vice-Admiral H.C.S. Bisht and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju among other dignitaries.

14.03.2017 : VUDA has inviting Request For Proposals (RFP) for Conversion of Decommissioned Aircraft TU -142 into a Museum and Refurbishment at Visakhapatnam. Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority intends to invite bidders for Dismantling, transporation and reassembling of the Aircraft unit TU-142. The place of Dismantling at INS Dega, Visakhapatnam. 28.01.2017 : Chief Minister, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu announced during the CII Partnership Summit 2017 that Govt is going to build a Mega Convention center, Hotel, Multiplexes, Shopping Complex at APIIC Ground, Harbour Park, where the CII summit is being held within 12 months and hopefully the next CII Partnership Summit or Sunrise AP Investment Meet 2018 will be held in that Convention Center.

As per the latest development, Govt handed over the responsibility to APIIC, GVMC and VUDA officials to assess the estimated cost and the officers estimated that Rs. 500 crores required for construction of International Convention Center with 3,000 seating capacity, 5 star hotel, Exhibition halls, Commercial complex. The distance from Airport to the proposed Convention center is 12 Kms and from the Railway station is 3 kms only and it is also nearer to the sea coast.

In order to promote the growth of the Hospitality sector and Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, Exhibitions (MICE) under tourism industry in the state, and thereby to give an impetus to the local economy, it is envisaged to develop a Convention Center in Visakhapatnam Smart City.

08.02.2017: India's tallest Iconic Sky Tower 400 feet high will be coming up atop Kailasagiri Hill in Vizag Smart City, with an estimated project cost of ₹ 85 crore. VUDA will soon enter into an agreement with the German company, HUSS Park Attractions for building the sky tower.

CEO of Huss Park Attractions, German Company, Mirko J Schulze along with his Vice President, India operations, Vibhisha Jain arrived Vizag on monday to inspect the site atop kailasagir hill and interact with the local officials for building the 400 feet high iconic sky tower. The team visited the proposed project sige at Kailasagiri and collected soil samples and suggested that a typhoon grade tower has to be constructed to withstand a wind speed of 300 kmph. The German company needed 12 months to commission the project. The promoters signed an MOU with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh during the recent CII Partnership Summit and probably this will be the first tourism project to be put on fast track for execution.


Vizag Smart City Railway Station Redevelopment

09.02.2017: Railways plan to lease out vacant land to redevelop Visakhapatnam station. Nearly 19,000 square metres of vacant land available with the Visakhapatnam railway station will be commercially exploited to give a facelift to the premier station. The estimated project cost is Rs 200 crore.

This was officially announced on Wednesday at the launching of phase-1 of railway station redevelopment programme by the Union railway ministry. Railway minister Suresh Prabhu formally announced it through a video-conference with the heads of select railway stations including Vizag from New Delhi in the presence of the media. We initially selected about 400 stations across the country including Vizag for redevelopment. In the first phase, we will redevelop 23 major railway stations.

While talking about Vizag station, Waltair divisional railway manager Chandralekha Mukherjee said the 19,000 square metres of vacant land comprises two parcels. One is 15,400 square meters and second one is 3,600 square metres. The available land is encroachment free and land titles are available with the railways. The revenue generated from commercial exploitation of the vacant land will be used to develop the Vizag station into a world-class one. The surplus generated will be used to fund modernisation of satellite railway stations. Railways will not require additional funding for development of the station, Mukherjee said. The invitation document was issued on February 8 and the last date of submission is May 24.


Vadlapudi Wagon Workshop

Construction of the wagon periodical overhauling (WPO) workshop at Vadlapudi under Waltair division of East Coast Railway is likely to start in the next fiscal as the Union railway budget sanctioned 80 crore to the project. The project is expected to be completed by 2020. At present, Andhra Pradesh has one such workshop at Vijayawada. Vizag's will be second and first modern workshop with advanced facilities in the state. The Railway Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), which was entrusted with the task of developing the project, had completed its ground survey and preparation of the detailed project report (DPR). The DPR has been approved by the Railway Board and subsequently, the railway ministry gave its nod to start construction within the next few months, railway sources said.

"The massive budget allocation to WPO in the new fiscal is a good sign. We will take up construction of the workshop on a prioritised basis," ECoR divisional railway manager Chandralekha Mukherjee told.The project was sanctioned in 2015-16 at a cost of 213.97 crore. The ministry sanctioned 30 crore in the same budget to begin the works. However, work got delayed due to many reasons and has now resumed with the sanction of 80 crore in the new budget.

Initially, ECoR was in-charge of the project, which was later handed over to the Workshop Projects Organisation in Patna. Now, the Railway Board has handed it over to RVNL."The WPO is a major project of the railways. It will be a boon to Vizag, which is going to be developed as a smart city. The workshop can attend to generation, repair and maintenance of wagons of passenger trains, goods and oil tankers. Modern facilities will be added to the workshop," a senior railway official said. Initially, ECoR was in-charge of the project, which was later handed over to the Workshop Projects Organisation in Patna. Now, the Railway Board has given it to RVNL. GVMC proposed to develop Mudasarlova Park in an area of 150 acres with an estimated cost of ₹ 30 cr. Beautiful landscapping, childrens park, gymnasium, yoga zone, golf court, jungle book tree house, musical fountain, walking, cycling tracks, water sports, conference rooms, auditorium for cultural programmers, sitout lawns are to be provided in the park.


Development of Kambalakonda Nature Park

Development of Kambalakonda Nature Park into an ideal destination for eco-tourism park. On a sprawling 7,146 hectares on National Highway 16 lies the Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary. This reserve forest is one of the major green zones in the city, complete with green hills, forests and a reservoir. DFO said that World Bank has sanctioned Rs. 1.29 for development of Kambalakonda. With the funds, we plan to build a natural trekking path, circulation tanks, jetty, desilt the check dams, repair the river crossing unit or the ropeway, get new fibre boats and life jackets, ensure essential amenities for visitors, install a chained mesh around the park to prevent escape of deer or other animals and set up streetlights and fire-fighting equipment.

As part of the formation of city forests, part of kambalakonda wildlife sanctuary was identified for development of Maha Viskha Nagar Vanam covering an extent of 160.19 hectares. The components of Maha Visakha Nagar Vanam are formation of walking path, childrens park, watch towers, rest places, trekking path, butterfly park, theme park, environmental education centre, night safari, plantation of native and ornamental forest species.

Vanamahotsavam festival at Kambalakonda! In the reserve forest of Kambalakonda wildlife sanctuary around 2000 saplings planted. This reserve forest spread over 7,146 hectares no other city in India has that much of forest.

Vysakhi Kala Tarangini Auditorium @ MVP Colony

03.09.2016 : Stone set to Vysakhi Kala Tarangini Auditorium by HRD Minister, Mr. Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Panchayat Raj Minister, Mr. Ayyanna Patrudu - VUDA is deloping the Auditorium at a cost of Rs. 32.5 crore and the construction is expected to be completed within 18 months from now. Vysakhi Kala Tarangini Auditorium will come up in an extent of 1.49 acres adjacent to Rythu Bazaar in MVP Colony. It will have 3 convention halls, mini amphi theatre, mini out door theatre and shopping arena. Facility is also being created to park about 100 cars and 200 two wheelers. Ravindra Bharati-like cultural complex to be built by VUDA on 1.6-acre site in MVP Colony beside Rythu Bazaar with a seating capacity of 1500 seats. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said a landmark auditorium with a cost of Rs.30 crore would come up at MVP Colony, making the city a cultural hub.


Development of Beaches


Development of Beaches from Bheemili to Revupolvaram in Vizag Smart City. AP Tourism should develop beaches at Bheemili, Mangamaripeta, Thotlakonda, Rushikonda, Saagar Nagar, RK Beach, Yarada, Gangavaram, Muthyalammapalem, Appikonda, Tantadi, Pudimadaka and Revupolavaram.

They should provide facilities like Water Sports, Beach volley ball, Beach Kabaddi, Para Sailing, Amusement Parks, Beach Shacks, Beach side Chairs, Cottages, Restaurants, Toilets etc. Casinos and Beer Parlours in some of these beaches to attract more tourists to the Vizag Smart City.

Also small luxury ship tourism should be introduced from Bheemili to RK Beach, RK Beach to Pudimadaka / Revupolavaram. The operators of these small luxury ships should provide restaurant, drinks, music, games etc in the Ship.


Sea Tourism

For Sea Tourism, Passenger Jetties to be constructed at Fishing Harbour/Coastal Battery, Bheemili, Yarada, Revupolavaram to operate Small Luxury Ships / Cruise Ships. Vizag Port Trust has a proposal to construct the Cruise Terminal at Bhimili at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore.

For development of Sea Tourism, Small luxury Ships to be introduced.  These luxury ships to be operated from Fishing Harbour / Bheemili Jetty, which will run between Bheemili - Fishing Harbour - Yarada. The operators of these small luxury ships should provide restaurant, drinks, music, games  etc in the Ship. 

Small Cruise ships can be introduced  to places like Kakinada Hope Island, Kalingapatnam beach, tourists can leave in the morning and return by evening spending time on the high seas. This will give tourists the experience of going on a cruise.

Cruise liners will be operated between Vizag to Andaman, Lakshadweep, Srilanka & Singapore.

Cruise Tourism

11.02.2017: Cruise Tourism in Vizag Smart City, the Tourism Hub of Sunrise State of Andhra Pradesh. AP Tourism should introduce small luxury ships to attract more tourists to the Vizag.

Vizag Port Trust should construct a passenger jetty at Fishing Harbour / Coastal Battery to facilitate the operation of small luxury ships. AP Tourism should introduce Small luxury Ships and these luxury ships to be operated from Fishing Harbour/Coastal Battery and Bheemili Jetty, which will run between Bheemili to Yarada. The operators of these small luxury ships should provide restaurant, drinks, music, games etc in the Ship. This will give tourists the experience of going on a cruise.

Heli-Tourism

25.08.2016 : MoU signed for heli-tourism - Chopper services to be operated from Dasara - Paving the way for starting of helicopter tourism from Dasara, VUDA and Sky Choppers Logistics Private Limited signed an MoU here on Wednesday in the presence of HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao. The HRD Minister said the agency would be allotted 1.95 acres of land on lease for construction of helipad and three rooms at VUDA Park to operate the services in lieu of payment of Rs.50,000 a month to VUDA. VUDA secretary A. Srinivas and Chandrasekhar of the agency signed the MoU. Two packages - one covering Kailasagiri to Bhimunipatnam and second covering Agency areas of Araku and Lammasingi would be offered. The fare and modalities will be worked out by VUDA and the agency. The passengers will have an insurance cover of Rs.10 lakh.

Sky Choppers Logistics Private Limited has entered into an MOU with Govt. of Andhra Pradesh for providing Heli-Tourism services in Vizag Smart City. First phase, they operate from Vuda Park to Kailasagiri and to Araku Valley, it will take 5 minutes from VUDA park to Kailasagiri and 20 minutes from VUDA Park to Araku valley, maximum seating capacity is 5 passengers.

According to Mr. Chandrasekhar, Business Development Director, Sky Choppers, Heli-Tourism in the city will be inaugurated soon.

Vizag Smart City's Tourism get boost with Rs. 2,000 cr investment. Heli-tourism, would be grounded immediately as it required little infrastructure. Helicopters either based at VUDA Park would carry the tourists to Kailasagiri and Araku Valley and give them an aerial view of some of the important tourist spots in the district.


Seaplane Tourism

Vizag Smart City's Tourism get boost with Rs. 2,000 cr investment. Sea Plane Tourism project is seaplanes which would also carry tourists into the skies and land them on water bodies. The project is expected to generate lot of enthusiasm among tourists. The developer assured Chief Minister at the Summit that he would complete construction of jetties at Bhimili and Kakinada within three months.


INS VIRAAT - Luxury Hotel & Museum

18.04.2017 : State tourism officials have officially zeroed in on Bheemili beach for setting up the INS Viraat museum. The request for proposal (RfP) for preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) was floated on Monday revealed the detailed cost estimates for refurbishment and conversion of INS Viraat into a major tourist destination at the proposed berthing site near Bheemili beach. AP tourism executive director R Sreeramulu Naidu told TOI that they preliminary identified three sites including Bheemili, Rushikonda and the beach front opposite Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in the city. However, after studying the three areas, they finalised Bheemili. Vast government land meant for tourism projects is available at Bheemili. Besides a jetty is also coming up under the Union shipping ministry's Sagaramala project. The jetty will be an added advantage for tourism. "We will finalise suitable agency for preparing the DPR in the next one week. We hope the DPR will be prepared in the next one or two months. The pre-bidding meeting will be held in the city on April 22. Once the DPR is prepared, we will approach the Union ministries for sending INS Viraat to the state," Sriramulu Naidu said. 12.04.2017 : INS Viraat: AP govt still eyeing tourism project - With the defence ministry and tourism ministry planning to convert the decommissioned INS Viraat into a tourism project anywhere in the country, the AP government is leaving no stone unturned to acquire the project. The tourism ministry is to convene a secretary-level meeting in New Delhi on April 13 with representatives of the states willing to take up the project. The state government has decided to send its tourism secretary to the meeting and explain the state's plans if it gets the decommissioned vessel. Speaking to TOI, AP tourism principal secretary N Srikanth said, "We are going to attend the meeting at New Delhi and explain our views and plans to convert INS Viraat into a tourism attraction through a power point presentation." Sources said representatives of other states like Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Gujarat will also participate in the secretary-level meeting. 01.12.2016 : IIT team to conduct EIA studies. It will suggest location of the ship on the coast in the city. A decision has been taken to rope in the services of a team of experts from IIT Madras to get an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) done for stationing of the INS Viraat on the Visakhapatnam coast, according to District Collector Pravin Kumar. The Collector held a review meeting with the stakeholders on the stationing of INS Viraat here on Wednesday. VUDA Vice Chairman T. Baburao Naidu, GVMC Commissioner N. Harinarayanan, representatives of the Indian Navy, National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Visakhapatnam Port, Department of Meteorology and Oceanography of Andhra University and KPMG consultants participated in the meeting. Mr. Pravin Kumar said that once the location was finalised, further measures could be taken for the early completion of the project.

18.09.2016 : INS Viraat likely to be in Vizag by early or middle 2017 - The aircraft carrier is to be decommissioned by this year-end.The iconic aircraft carrier, INS Viraat, is likely to be brought to the city by early or middle of the next year, Vice-Admiral H.C.S. Bisht, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command, said.

23.02.2016 : The Department of Tourism has begun the ground work to bring INS Viraat, the aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy, to Visakhapatnam as a tourist attraction. It is learnt that CRISIL, the AP Government, and the Navy are working on a feasibility report on the tourism project. The 24,000-tonne worlds oldest aircraft carrier is all set to be decommissioned in June this year, and it is likely to be handed to the Andhra Pradesh Government at a price of Re. 1 for converting it into a 500-room luxury hotel.

Proposal is being made to convert INS VIRAAT War Ship, which will be decommissioned very soon, into a Hotel, Museum on Vizag Smart City Sea Coast near Tenneti park beach / Jodugullapalem beach / Lawsons bay beach.

Modern Hotel with 500 rooms and also conference rooms. Also Govt of AP proposes Helicopter riding, Para sailing on INS Viraat onboard. To bring this Warship from the sea to the Coast is very difficult and expensive, therefore, Govt has appointed Crisil to estimate the total expenditure to be incurred for this activity. If everything is going well, this will be materialised within a period of 6 months.
